Because of day-to-day increase in population, the health workers are not being able to concentrate on all
patients. In the case of emergency situations, they are inefficient to act accordingly due to man power shortage
involved in the activity. This has led to the development of a new department of workers named Emergency Medical
technicians.
Their obligation is to act accordingly in the case of emergencies and save lives of people. But the EMTs need to
get certified before they could actually perform in the field. EMT certification is a major step before actually
getting into the duty. EMTs are to act according to the instructions of doctors and they could not do anything by
defying doctor's orders.
EMTs are composed of the mandatory knowledge and skills needed for doing anything in the field, but they are
required to follow the protocol strictly. EMTs could do emergency steps only if they are equipped to do it. There
is five kinds of EMTs and each has a specific function for them. There is a division of labor and positions between
them as they are subjected to different trainings.
The first one in the categorization is EM-B. They perform the simple procedures and their parameters are
limited. State laws are imposed on most of the health employees and EMTs are also not avoided from this procedure.
An EM-B could organize the treatment in accordance with doctor's orders and the help of help of health
professionals are allowed.
They have their own activities and are limited to them only. They are not put into severe training procedures.
The next in the categorization is EM-I. They have little wider responsibilities and working parameters as compared
to the first category. The main reason for this is that they are more properly trained. They are provided with the
powers to provide medical care to those whom the EM-B is not allowed to give.
They could also perform patient intubations if specified. The third category is the EM-II. They observe the
treatment as specified. They are provided with powers to give treatment through veins as they have acknowledged the
venipuncture. They are allowed to give injections as they professionalized to do so.
The last category is EMT-III and they are the most well-informed of all the categories. They are well-trained to
perform various kinds of emergency operations. They are paramedics as they could acquire a number if the training
and they have systematically functioned. They are acknowledged as the most advanced kind of all emergency
performers.
The task of an Emergency Medical Technician is not simple in nature. This is the main reason behind the
certification of the qualified ones. No one is allowed to practice the procedure legally in the absence of proper
license or certificate. Each state has unique laws supervising the activities of health workers. One needs to
follow these laws in order to prevent any possible risks and defects.
