Because of day-to-day increase in population, the health workers are not being able to concentrate on all patients. In the case of emergency situations, they are inefficient to act accordingly due to man power shortage involved in the activity. This has led to the development of a new department of workers named Emergency Medical technicians.

Their obligation is to act accordingly in the case of emergencies and save lives of people. But the EMTs need to get certified before they could actually perform in the field. EMT certification is a major step before actually getting into the duty. EMTs are to act according to the instructions of doctors and they could not do anything by defying doctor's orders.

EMTs are composed of the mandatory knowledge and skills needed for doing anything in the field, but they are required to follow the protocol strictly. EMTs could do emergency steps only if they are equipped to do it. There is five kinds of EMTs and each has a specific function for them. There is a division of labor and positions between them as they are subjected to different trainings.

The first one in the categorization is EM-B. They perform the simple procedures and their parameters are limited. State laws are imposed on most of the health employees and EMTs are also not avoided from this procedure. An EM-B could organize the treatment in accordance with doctor's orders and the help of help of health professionals are allowed.

They have their own activities and are limited to them only. They are not put into severe training procedures. The next in the categorization is EM-I. They have little wider responsibilities and working parameters as compared to the first category. The main reason for this is that they are more properly trained. They are provided with the powers to provide medical care to those whom the EM-B is not allowed to give.

They could also perform patient intubations if specified. The third category is the EM-II. They observe the treatment as specified. They are provided with powers to give treatment through veins as they have acknowledged the venipuncture. They are allowed to give injections as they professionalized to do so.

The last category is EMT-III and they are the most well-informed of all the categories. They are well-trained to perform various kinds of emergency operations. They are paramedics as they could acquire a number if the training and they have systematically functioned. They are acknowledged as the most advanced kind of all emergency performers.

The task of an Emergency Medical Technician is not simple in nature. This is the main reason behind the certification of the qualified ones. No one is allowed to practice the procedure legally in the absence of proper license or certificate. Each state has unique laws supervising the activities of health workers. One needs to follow these laws in order to prevent any possible risks and defects.
